Terry is quite a diligent worker, he comes late to work or absents himself from work only on days he was sure the boss' not going to be around. To the Boss, Terry's his best member of staff because he does not know of Terry's escapades whenever he is not around. The boss makes the point of praising and citing him as a good example in the presence of the other members of staff, they only sniff- Who does not know Terry, the master deceiver, exemplary worker my foot!
The boss thinks Terry's dedicated, others know him for who he truly is. Eye Service.

Blair, Terry's childhood friend is a yes-man, he says a lot but do them not. He's all out to gain favours from the Director, he agrees with any and everything, whether they make sense or not. He has no
personal effort to the development of the department, he has the habit of saying bogus and unachievable things to excite the boss, he puts lofty visions down on paper with no intention of actually carrying them out, he is like our Politicians and their Manifestoes, he's just like that other son who promised his father he was going to go work in his vineyard, but eventually never left for the farm(Mat 21: 28-30). People in this category are likened to clouds and wind that brings no rain (Pro 25:24)- Lip Service.
"Mi ole waku, mi ole parami"- their best line in Buga's song.
"Ogota ogoota, owo alaaru ape"- their best Yoruba saying.
You hear them say stuff like, "the owner of the company did not kill himself, why should I die before my time doing another man's job. They are nonchalant about their work, they clearly don't love what they do, they don't even give a damn about progress or development, they just go everyday out of obligation. This happens a lot in a work place where there's a lapse in supervision.- Forgive my calling it "Civil Service".

This category of service is kinda the worst. Their main objective is to overthrow the boss, to get rid of him and take his place, even though they usually pretend to be loyal. Examples permeate the book of 2nd Kings where servants backstabbed their masters to become King in their place, victory or promotion gained this way never really last long, the end is always bitter. The fact that a boss is bad does not justify our being a part of a gang-up or a conspiracy against him or her. This kind of service can be called Evil Service.
There's this kind of service all children of God are expected to render wherever we find ourselves, whether we are working to be paid, doing voluntary service or we've been called to serve, this is Service As-Unto-The Lord. If we always put it at the back of our mind that God is our main boss, and that He's the ultimate rewarder, we won't join the crowd in drawing back another's business, we will put our very best into our assignments everytime. And what's more, if we are faithful in little, we'll be made master of much. If we are faithful in doing another's work well, God will definitely set us up too. You don't have to wait till you start your own business before you can be diligent, be diligent even now and you will stand before kings and not mean men.
Ephesians 6:5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 6:7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
Dad shared this during one of our morning devotions and it left a deep impression in my heart. I thought you'd be blessed if I shared it with you, I hope you learnt a thing. What kind of service are you rendering in that office you're presently serving in? Ask the saviour to help you. #KingdomWriter.
