THE SECRETS OF EFFECTIVE PRAYER

When we talk of prayer, we discuss a universal way of communicating with supernatural beings. Prayers are not only done in churches, other religions use one form of prayer or the other. Now as a Christian, we must learn how to pray to God effectively so that we don’t relent in our holy faith. It is a privilege to get the chance to
pray to God, we must not misuse the chance at all.
Hebrew 10 verse 11-25
To be able to pray effectively, we need the following:
1.     We must belong to God: Before you can pray effective i.e. for God to give answers, you must have a definite relationship with God. People spend their whole life on mountains and waste their time because they want a magic miracle. 1 Timothy 2 verse 5
2.     We must pray to God the Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ: The name of Jesus is the only name given in heaven and on earth through which man can connect with God. John 14 verses 13-14. Jesus and God the father are one. So praying to Jesus, or to the father, or to the Holy Spirit – all goes well. If you need help, just call the name ‘JESUS’ immediately and powerfully, and you will be saved.
3.     We must have a clean Heart: There are so many evil doctrines going around the town now, the doctrine of eternal security is one of them. Holy is our God, if you are unclean you can’t see his face, neither can you come to His presence. You must have a clean heart if you want God to give answers to your prayers. There is no magic, no shortcut. Psalm 66: 18.
4.     We must pray with right motives: James 5:16b. This is a very important prerequisite of answered prayers. Matt 6 verse 5-6. The heart of man is secretive truly, but it is crystal clear to God. James 4 verse 1-3. Anna’s prayer wasn’t answered because she knew how to pray with zeal, but because she made a perfect spiritual deal with God. She was willing to give birth to a child for God’s use – God answered with immediate effect. Motives go a long way in determining if God answers our prayers and requests or not.
5.     We must have a forgiving spirit: If you have anything against anyone, the chances of your prayers been answered are very low. Mark 11 verse 25.
6.     We must pray in accordance to the Will of God: Look here dear, our God is not a robot. He does what He wants. He has His wills and purposes for all things. God is everywhere, He always hears your prayer – but sometimes He won’t answer because your will is inversely tangential to His will. Consider the case of Jesus in Gethsemane. The will of God can be searched in the Bible. You should let the Holy Spirit lead you. And if you don’t get that right, begin to speak in tongues. You can speak in tongues for hours. You won’t miss your way with that.
7.     We must pray in Faith: James 5: 1 – 8. When you pray, believe God will answer your prayer. Ezekiel 37. There is nothing impossible with our God, so have faith- believe. Always hold on to the word of God. Psalms 23: 4. People run around because they are afraid. You must know your place in Christ Jesus, be very careful the type of prayer mountain you go.
8.     Pray with thanksgiving: Learn to start your prayer with thanks to God. Praise the Lord before you ask, and praise Him at the end of your prayer to show that you believe He has heard and that He will answer you. That’s the way to get things from our God. Philippians 4 verse 6
9.     Pray Continually: This does not mean you should involve yourself in unprofitable repetitions. 1 Thessalonians 5 verse 17
10.            Be Specific (make definite requests): Philippians 4 verse 6 (Amplified Version).
God doesn’t answer miscellaneous prayers; learn to be specific in your request. Don’t just tell God to bless you, state the type of blessing you want. To some, getting a child may be a blessing, it mayn’t to others. We have different people with different manners of need; yours is very different to mine.
God answers prayers in different ways. Don’t get confused when YOU don’t get immediate answers to your prayers. As we have said above, God has his own plans and purposes. But other times, God may answer your prayers immediately. God owns us.
