Grace
comes from charis word which means
favour, blessing, or kindness. It is God chosen to bless us rather than curse
us as our sin deserves. It is the benevolence to the undeserving. Grace began
In the garden of Eden, when God killed an animal to cover the sin of Adam and
Eve (gen 3:21). The pattern continued throughout the old testament, when God
instituted
blood sacrifice as a means to
atone for sinful men. It was not the blood of animal per seed but the grace of
God that forgive those who trusted in Him (heb 10:4), (gen 15:6). God is the instigator of grace and
it is from Him that all other grace flows. Paul always says “grace and peace
are from God”. God bestows grace and mercy but both are not the same. Mercy
withholds a punishment we deserve. Grace gives a blessing we do not deserve. By
Christ sacrifice God cancel our sin’s dept. this is mercy but it goes even
further than mercy and extent grace to his enemy (Rom 5:10). He offers
us forgiveness (Heb 8:12)(Eph 1:7),
reconciliation (Col 1:19-20), abundant
life (Jn 10:10), eternal
treasure (Lk 4:5, Holy spirit (Lk 11:13) and heavenly
home with him (Jn 3:16-18).
Grace is the essential art of God’s character,
God’s favour towards the unworthy.
