Fred
loved fishing; he loved staying by a lake or a river, with a salt water rod and
reel in his hand. At least that was what everybody thought. But the truth is
Fred just loved water, the flowing and the stagnant one. He loved to feel the
breeze that come with water, the peace that flow in it. Fred could spend his
whole life sitting near a stream, if his food and clothes wood come to him
automatically. He never did really want to hurt the
fishes, but sometimes he
felt like having a companion, so he pulled out one to talk to. Many people that
find Fred beside the river talking to a fish find him really absurd; some even
think he was crazy. Why, if not in insanity, will a human leave the company of
hundreds and thousands of his mates to talk to an animal; an animal that can
really make no understandable sound for that matter, a fish? An animal that
can’t really live for long in our world; what pleasure can a man derive from
it, only Fred knew.
Today,
22nd March, 2013, he was wearing a smile, holding the reel very tightly and
letting the hooking line into the river. He needed a fish to talk to today; he
needed a little creature to accompany him. He couldn’t really talk with a fish,
because fishes can’t talk, so he talked to them. And he really wished he would
catch a very patient and enduring one today, he had a lot on his mind he wanted
to say. He had on his body a white shirt over blue jeans; a man of the oceans
should wear things similar to the ocean.
Fred
raised his hand and let out the hooking line carelessly, he certainly didn’t
think he would catch a fish with his first trial. But as a matter of fact, no
sooner had he thrown the thing into the river than the hook became somewhat
heavy. Fred could feel it; he was undoubtedly taken aback by such a first trial
successful search. Hence with optimal eagerness, he pulled the line out of the
river. However, the smile on his face disappeared at the sight of what he saw
at the end of his hook. He had caught a Barbel. Barbels are not so sociable; in
fact, they are very tough and will fight right until you slip your landing net
under them. To worsen matters, they do not cope well out of the water and must
be returned safely and quickly. So Barbels are no fish worth catching for Fred,
they serve him no purpose at all.
