"Never you forget your monthly sleep over, don't joke with madness o...", the Dibia had said to him three weeks ago during his biannual obligatory visit to the shrine. " Madness or sudden death...", the Dibia's stern warning flashed through his mind again, shaking him a little as he tried to concentrate on his driving.
Everything about the "program" had been difficult from the start, but he had been too desperate for wealth to notice. He had had to quit eating bananas, eggs, garden eggs, onions and tomatoes. Explaining to his wife that his stew will now be made up of only peppers and oil was an uphill task, he had lied that the doctor said he had a special kind of high blood pressure and had been advised
against eating those things and since she didn't want to be a widow, she had agreed and had made it her duty to make sure he doesn't even see them, let alone taste them. The result was worth the lie, few weeks later, she was driving a Ferrari. Bayo had adjusted to the "don't eats".
He had also adjusted to the biannual impromptu obligatory sacrifice at the shrine. " No one can predict when the gods will be hungry", the Dibia had said. Twice a year, the gnomes visit Bayo in his sleep with canes, 24hours after the beating, he must report at the shrine(from anywhere in the world) with food for the gods or else....
There's only one he had found very difficult to adjust to, the monthly sleep over. He shuddered at the mere thought of it while trying to maneuver his way through the rough traffic. Every month, in order to sustain his wealth, he had to eat dinner at the city's cemetery, after which he will sleep over till the break of dawn on another tomb, a different tomb every month. He took a deep breath as he negotiated a bend. He had been having night mares, even now the thought of it unnerved him, it was freaking him out, driving him crazy, killing him softly.
...a trailer suddenly appeared from the other side, driving furiously towards him... A crash, a black out. Bayo never survived the accident.
"The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it." Proverbs 10:22. Wait for His blessing, you are blessed as you wait.
