BAPTISM

TEXT: John 1:2 9-34
Baptism is one of the very important and
foundational doctrines of the Christian Faith. This word is
from the Greek word “bapto”w hich means “to dip” or to
“immerse”. Bap tism signifies the death of believers to sin
through repentance and confession and the resurrection
he experience on the new life of holiness in
Christ.
MODE OFBAPTISM
Matt 28:19-20
1. It is administered in the name of the father, Son and
the Holy Spirit.
2. It is an ope n and visible profession of our faith in
Christ and His work of salvation.
3. Acc eptance to live a new life in accordance with
God’s precepts and a life of service (discipleship)
TYPES OF BAPTISM
1. Bap tism into Christ – Ep h 2:5-6, Rom 6:3-4
2. Bap tism by water– M ark 1:8
3. Bap tism by Holy Ghost – M ark 1:8
These baptisms must be experienced by a believer in
order to live an acceptable life unto God.BAPTISM INTO CHR IST
This form of baptism takes place at new birth,
when one gives his/her life to God and makes Christ
His Lord and Saviour. This is not experienced by work
but by grace through Faith as Eph 2:8 -9 concludes.
These means we are identified with the death and
resurrection of Christ Rom 6:4, Eph 2:-16.
When He was crucified, we were buried with
Him, when He died, we died with Him and When He
resurrected with Him. All these purpose of identifying
with His victory and triumph over death, grace and sin.
I Cor 15:5 5,Col 2:11 -14
Remember this experience comes via grace
through faith not by wo rks.
WATER BAPTIS M
John the Baptist started this in the New
Testament when he was preaching the baptism of
repentance for the remission of sins. Mark 1:4 Water
baptism to the believer shows also the physical
identification with the death and resurrection of
Christ. This time one needs to be immerse in water
(signifies being buried with Him) and from water
(signifies being raised up with Him to a new life). Rom
6:3-6
