"I'll never read this version of the bible again", Ted muttered to himself. "Slave kwa!" Not on a morning when he needed all the encouragement and confidence he could get from the Word. "That is why some brethren tell us to stick with the good old King James Version, I'm giving up on this version, such a demeaning word choice."
Ted stood up from the bed to say a quick prayer, after which he will start preparing for the interview scheduled to start by 7am.
After his prayer, his mind brought back the verse he has just read.
"Romans 1

It was the "Slave of God" part that jumped at him- and stood with him, and he doesn't know why. Ted does not use a devotional, he made his own bible reading plan. But on some mornings, he could practically hear the Holy Spirit telling him to read a particular scripture or another, on such mornings he gets really excited because a specific instruction always follow. It was like that this morning, he'd woken up by 4:00am to afford him ample time to prepare for the interview he was going for. He hasn't even opened his eyes when he heard it clearly "Romans 1:1". That was strange because usually He receives scripture in chapters, at least a chapter but definitely never a verse. Before he opened it, he was sure God meant business this morning and he was already expecting a seriously Huge Rev. But to his uttermost surprise the verse was "just there", it's only the "Slave of God" part that is getting him worked up. "What kind of thing is this, when pastor has just finished a series on Sonship?", Ted discarded the scripture with a waive of the hand, pushing whatever it could mean to the farthest corner of his mind.
Taking a cab from where he stays to Shell Industrial area, Rumuobiakani (Port-Harcourt), Ted was standing in front of the big Shell DP building by 6am. That's why he loves Port- Harcourt, life's easier and saner than it is in Lagos. To make a 7am interview on time at the Centre of Excellence, Ted was sure he would have had to wake up by 2am. Lagos and its Crazy life- people who can't cope like Ted leave while people who are used to it love the craziness to a fault, every other place looks dull to them. Ted smiled to himself as he entered the company's revolving door because of his thoughts about Lagos and because he was trying to shake off the tit bits of nervousness suddenly hovering over his heart.
The reception area was cozy and beautiful. Royal Dutch Shell Co do not only have the name, they've got the taste too.
"Look up." Ted looked up. "Why do you think the ceiling linings and edges are plated in yellow?" "erm maybe just to make it durable and attractive" Ted replied that awesome voice he was so much familiar with.
"What colour is that man behind the computer at the reception desk wearing?" "Red, Yellow and White", Ted confidently replied again.
"Aren't the window blinds beautiful?" "Yes they are God, in Fact the whole place is super attractive", Ted impatiently replied getting tired of the seemingly irrelevant questions already. How could God be asking him such trivial questions now, If there will be any questioning now, they should be questions relating to the interview. What's the vision statement of the present Nigerian Petroleum Minister?
What has been Shell Nigeria's major challenge since it's inception and how can it be addressed?
...a slave of God... His mind brought it back again. Mtchew, "This mind of mine need some renewing, it lacks focus", Ted convinced himself and started browsing on the roles of a Company PRO.
"Ted, go to the gents".
Not again! "No God, I can't possibly visit the toilet now. To do what sef!" Ted sat tight.
"The gents, Ted the gents."
Ted shook his head so vigorously, the lady sitting next to him noticed and eyed him suspiciously. " God, not when its 7am already and am the first on the list of the applicants, I'm not going anywhere Lord".

"Did you just call me Lord?"
"Yes Lord", Ted quickly replied before getting the logic. His head dropped, his heart did a double beat and his eyes became misty as he suddenly realized the implication of what he'd just said and the gravity of what he'd almost done.
"I'm highly sorry Lord", Ted said already heading for the gents even though he doesn't understand what exactly he's going to do there. He has not taken anything that morning, so he's not pressed at all.
Before he opened the gents main door, he heard two guys discussing, arguing actually about the wisdom behind adopting the new found natural gas processing technique and the profit that could accrue from such venture. One of them insisted the idea is a total waste of precious company fund giving cogent reasons why no sane oil company should engage in it. The other insisted that adopting the new technique may be money consuming at first but that eventually it's going to yield great returns, he also supported his stand with strong points and facts. Ted agreed with the second man, he couldn't believe he has been standing outside the door for close to ten minutes. He didn't want to disrupt the interesting discussion, that's why he didn't enter.
"You may return now", the Holy Spirit said.
Ted walked back to the reception area where he was seated earlier, fortunately the interview started late due to reasons unknown to the applicants. Ted was called in first like it's supposed to be.
As he entered the beautiful office which looked like a board room, the first voice that welcomed him was the second voice he heard at the gents. The man was heading the interview panel. After the necessary introduction, Ted was asked only two questions.
One, "What is Shell's Colour theme?"
"Red, Yellow and White", Ted confidently replied.
Two, "What do you think about this oil company adopting the newly discovered gas processing technique?"
Ted downloaded all of the man's points and facts back for him, he only added a few ideas of his own here and there. The man, in fact, the whole panel was captivated.
"We look forward to working with you Mr Ted, Congratulations."

After acknowledging God as our creator and allowing Him become a Father to us, the third level of relationship that should exist between God and man is the Master-Servant relationship. Jesus must be reverenced as Lord. It means we have the duty of obeying Him and letting Him lead us. It's not nice when we choose when to listen and when not to listen, if He's really our Father, then we must honour Him and trust Him to always make the best decision for us. Every child of God should always be at His service. Well, God is not like earthly masters, He is just and fair and true and faithful. He is Love.
