I am Prince, my father owns a school. I grew up with the
knowledge of the trials, tribulations, worries, qualms, suspicions, pangs and
uncertainties of owning a school; as well as the joy, blessing, elation and prosperity it brings. All I can say now is that it is quite challenging,
demanding, perplexing and somewhat interesting to own one. But yet, I think
owning a school is not as tiresome as teaching in it. Teaching is not the work
for a lazy, slothful or hardheaded being. I have learnt it requires simplicity,
meekness and long suffering, coupled with the love for it. So I hated teaching,
I raced from it.
Then I heard
that one of my friends is working in a school. My friend isn’t just working,
she is teaching. My previously bounded spirit went apart. So I began to wonder:
Where is she getting the required strength? How is she combining it with her
education? What is it that attracts her so much to teaching? These and more
were my unanswered questions.
So I stood to
my feet firmly; it was time to get answers for all my bordering unanswered
questions. I summoned my mind and went for her. But first, I made my research;
I gathered enough questions for the interview. Then I made the arrangement for
the interview, I contacted her. It wasn’t easy at first, getting all the
attention I needed. I had to track and meet up with her schedule. I am not a
very outgoing being, I had to put aside my reclusiveness and focus on the
mission.
And this was
how it went, my composed questions and her relatively acceptable answers.
Firstly, I
asked if I could meet her; “I’m Adewumi Miracle by name, I’m from Ondo State.
I’m 18 years old. I live in Ido Osun, Osun State.” She replied.
I held on a little
while and then started again. “Where do you teach?” I asked. She said she
teaches at Buntem Nursery and Primary School, Onibueja, Ido Osun. I didn’t
really know this school, but I know Onibueja, so I continued anyway. The next
question I asked was what she taught. “As a primary school teacher, I teach
Mathematics, English Language, Social habits, Science, Health habits,
Handwriting, Quantitative reasoning, Verbal reasoning, Cultural and Creative
Arts etc.” She responded.
