PLEASE LORD, HELP ME GET ONE MORE, ONE MORE!

"What you men fail to recognize is a unit is no better than its weakest member!" the Sergeant screamed.
Everyone on the unit knew the sarge was angry, they knew why too- Private Desmond Doss, the only member of their unit who has refused to touch a rifle.
Desmond Doss signed up for the Army 'cos he wanted to serve His country, even though he knew he would never be able to touch a gun, he believes God said not to kill. He wanted to serve as a medic, he figures while everybody will be taking lives with guns, he'll be saving lives with his first aid expertise. The
Sarge thought Private Doss was a nightmare for their unit, in fact almost everyone in the US Military who was aware of the situation thought so too. How can a commander take a soldier who can't handle a rifle to a crossfire battle ground? He 'd be dead in seconds, what's more? He wont be able to save no one.
They tried to talk him into quiting, but he was determined to stay. They tried to drop him legally, but his right as a "Conscientious Objector" was maintained by the US Constitution. Straight off to battle then, who mourns for a fool?
The first day of attack was a bad day, men were dying like chickens. They were on the enemy's territory and those people had the upper hand. The soldiers were shooting sporadically sometimes without seeing who exactly the targets were, they were being shot too, thank God for medics, their skills came in handy. Eventually the US military was able to suppress the enemy by blowing up their bunker and there was peace for the night.
The second day of attack was worse, the enemy came in droves. The US soldiers kept falling right, left and centre, until Private Doss was the only medic left to take care of the wounded combat soldiers.
"Move backwards!" the commander barked the order and the soldiers started to retreat. Even as they retreat, guns kept claiming lives. The battle field was high up on a ridge so even retreating was not as easy as pronounced. Private Doss had his chance to climb down too and run to safety but he decided to stay. Risking bullets and fire sprays, he let down the mountain one wounded soldier after another with a rope, all the while praying, "Please, Lord, help me get one more." Whenever he sees a wounded soldier still alive, he does the necessary First Aid and lifts the soldier alone, makes loops with a rope and transports the fellow down the hill. Then he prays again, "One more Lord", brings another soldier, asks for one more, then he brings another soldier, that continued through the night until the next morning. There were two soldiers down the hill that wouldn't dare to climb up, but they got the rescued wounded soldiers to the military tent hospital. That way Private Doss rescued about 75 soldiers singlehandedly without a gun, God being his sole protector.
Sometimes when you consider the enormity of the task ahead of you, you tend to want to chicken out. But when you involve God, he helps you to take it one step at time until you have the whole mile behind you. It would have been unthinkable for Private Doss to aspire to rescue that much soldiers alone in the midst of a crossfire, but he kept asking God to help Him rescue one more, when that's done, he asked for one more until he accomplished a great deal.
The US military eventually took the territory and many of the Soldiers saw God and believed.
